Maria Sharapova's second Slam!
Maria Sharapova claimed the second Grand Slam title of her career with victory over Justine Henin-Hardenne in the US Open women's singles final on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Russian added the Flushing Meadows crown to her 2004 Wimbledon title with a 6-4 6-4 win. She lost her opening service game but hit back with two breaks on her way to winning the first set. And Maria, serving magnificently, took the second set with one break to win in one hour 30 minutes. The 2004 Wimbledon champion said:
"I'm still pretty shocked but thrilled I got to experience another Grand Slam win and that it's a different Grand Slam. I figured I lost the last four times against Justine so I thought I would just flip everything 360 degrees and do the total opposite," she said. I am so happy it's here in New York - my favourite city."
