Maria Sharapova won her first match in more than two months

The sixth-ranked Maria Sharapova won her first match in more than two months Tuesday at the Sony Ericsson Championships, grinding out a 6-4, 7-5 win against Daniela Hantuchova. Maria prevailed in 1 hour, 48 minutes with the help of six aces and four service breaks. Hantuchova managed only two breaks and piled up six double faults in her opening setback.

"I know what I can do. I know I've done it before and I know that if I'm not thinking about this or that and I'm loose then I play great," Maria Sharapova said. "I'm not here just to walk around the court and have some presence. I'm here to compete. I'm here to fight for every point and that's what I do best."

"It's just great to be out on court," Maria said. "For my first match I think I did a good job being solid and just concentrating on what I had to do in order to win the match. I didn't worry about the other things like my shoulder, you know, or how I was gonna play."
