MARIA SHARAPOVA FACING CAREER DECISION

Maria Sharapova will ­discover within the next month whether she has a career in ­tennis again or must face the harsh reality of retirement.



Former Wimbledon champion and world No1 Sharapova has taken six months to recover from a damaged shoulder that has proved to be a far more ­serious problem than when it was first diagnosed.

It has taken so long because the team of advisers have ­chosen rest and recuperation as a way to a comeback, rather than the surgery she still may need. Sharapova, 22 in April, has, in the past, come back from injury too fast, her camp accused of ‘chasing the dollar’.
