Maria Sharapova advances in first round of Rogers Cup

Maria Sharapova was an easy winner in first-round action on Monday at the $2 million Rogers Cup.

In the last match of the night, Russia's Sharapova defeated compatriot Nadia Petrova, the 10th-seed, 6-3, 6-4 on the hardcourts at Rexall Centre. It was the third time this season Sharapova has defeated Petrova.
