Maria Sharapova rolls along
Maria Sharapova rolls along. Wind, rain, thunder, lightning, Russians. Those elements were unleashed last night at the Rexall Centre, as the Rogers Cup tried to pare down to today's quarterfinal draw in a weather-delayed round of 16.
After 90 minutes to let the tornado danger pass, and then a second rain delay, tennis beauty Maria Sharapova's quest for her first title since shoulder surgery resumed, winning a dogged match with Russian comrade Vera Zvonareva, 6-2, 7-6 (3). Sharapova now faces Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska, the tourney's 14th seed.
